Upon receiving a 30-year old boat from an uncle, Redditor bcell4u wasn’t sure it could be salvaged, but after doing some tests on it, they decided to give the boat an incredible makeover. What they did to turn this little boat into a beauty is really incredible.
They drilled and re-riveted the raised spine area and went over it with Marinetex.
BCell4u says, “If you look closely you can see where the spine is bent (that's where the rivets were loose and aluminum was slightly cracking.”
Here is his tally of most of his costs.
He says the project cost about $800 give or take, plus about 10-14 days of working on it (or one week if he worked on it full-time.) For comparison sake, he thought it would have cost about $2000 to $3000 if he had to purchase a fixer-upper boat and materials.
For more details, check out the Reddit post, particularly the comments. There is a rather lengthy discussion on the impeller blade, with several commenters suggesting he replace it for safety reasons. The original poster thanked the commenters and said he will look into replacing it, along with a few other things that people suggested.
